Problems with Paratransit?

The DLPC continues to receive several reports of problems with paratransit services. If you or someone you know is experiencing such problems, please continue to inform the DLPC and you may attend a meeting of the Concerned Paratransit Riders, which is a group of paratransit riders who have experienced problems primarily with MARTA paratransit. Concerned Paratransit Riders meet every second Saturday at 10:00 a.m. on the second floor of the Shepherd Center, which is located at 2020 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309-1465.

Also, you may file a complaint with the Federal Transit Authority, Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”). A blank complaint form is provided by OCR here. Because the complaint form must be signed, you will need to print a copy of the complaint form and complete it. The form requests in Section IV that you provide the name of the public transit provider and the name, title and phone number of a contact person. If your complaint is against MARTA, the contact person is Sharon Crenchaw, Director of Paratransit, and her phone number is 404-848-4216. You will also have to prepare on a separate sheet or sheets, a description of your complaint. You should include details such as names, dates, times, route numbers, witnesses and other relevant information to your complaint allegations. The complaint form with attached sheet or sheets should be mailed to the address which appears on the complaint form. After you mail your complaint, if you continue to experience problems, you should continue to document your problems and submit a summarized description as often as you want to OCR. You should indicate that the description that you are submitting relates to a previously filed complaint. At some point, you should be notified of a complaint number for your complaint. Once you have a complaint number, you should include it in subsequent descriptions of ongoing problems. If you have any questions about how to file your complaint, you may call the DLPC.

For those individuals who for some reason cannot access the website or are unable to prepare a written complaint, there are two options. You may seek assistance from the DLPC or call the FTA ADA Assistance line at 1-888-445-4511(Voice) or through the Federal Information Relay Service, 1-800-877-8339 and explain that you are unable to access the agency’s website and need assistance in preparing your complaint.
